Baby Steps Privacy Policy
Baby Steps is a baby progress tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how that information is used, and what choices you have.
Baby Steps is designed as a local-first app. Core child profile, growth, milestone, and reminder data is stored on your device unless you choose to export or share it.
Information We Collect
The app may handle the following information you enter or choose to provide:
- Child profile information, such as name, birth date, sex, theme, and avatar image.
- Growth records, such as height, weight, head circumference, dates, and notes.
- Milestone tracking records, such as completed milestones, completion dates, and notes.
- App preferences and reminder settings, such as measurement units and notification options.
- Backup data if you export or import your information.
How Information Is Used
Your information is used to operate the app, including to:
- Show age-based milestones and progress summaries.
- Save and display growth tracking history.
- Schedule local reminder notifications that you enable.
- Support backup export and restore features that you initiate.
- Maintain the selected active child profile and app preferences on your device.
Where Data Is Stored
Baby Steps primarily stores app data locally on your device using on-device storage. The app does not currently require you to create an account to use its core tracking features.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Baby Steps may request permission to send local notifications on your device. These notifications are used for features such as weekly check-ins and milestone nudges. You can disable notifications at any time in the app or through your device settings.
Photos and Files
If you choose to add or edit an avatar image, the app may access photos or files you select. This access is used only to let you pick, edit, and store the image for the child profile on your device.
Backups, Export, and Sharing
Baby Steps includes export and import tools so you can back up your data. When you export or share a backup file, that action is initiated by you, and the privacy and security of the exported file depends on where and how you store or share it.
Advertising and Third Parties
The app includes support for Google Mobile Ads. If ads are enabled in a released version of the app, Google or its partners may collect data under their own policies to provide, personalize, measure, or secure advertising. You should also review Google’s privacy information if ads are active in your version of the app.
Analytics
Based on the current app implementation, Baby Steps does not include a dedicated third-party analytics SDK for core usage tracking.
Data Retention
Data stored locally remains on your device until you edit it, delete it, remove the app, or overwrite it through import/restore actions. You can also delete a child profile or wipe local app data from within the app.
Children’s Privacy
Baby Steps is intended for use by parents or caregivers, not by children themselves. The app may store information about a child that a parent or caregiver chooses to enter for personal tracking purposes.
Security
We aim to use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the app’s design, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and any exported backup files.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. If it changes, the updated version should be posted with a new effective date.
